Dr. Deirdre Greer

Dr. Deirdre Greer received her B.S.Ed. and M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Columbus State University. She received her Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University. Her dissertation, Logico-Mathematical Processes in Beginning Reading, was completed under Dr. Steven Silvern. She taught in the Muscogee County School District for 8 years. She began teaching at Columbus State University as an adjunct professor in 2004 and began teaching full time in fall 2005. She is currently the Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions. Her research interests include children's development of logico-mathematical knowledge, the relationship between logico-mathematical constructs and neurological research, motivation and attention as important factors for classroom success, improving elementary mathematics instruction through teacher preparation and professional development, and improving education through school and university partnerships. Dr. Greer enjoys visiting elementary classrooms to co-teach and teach model lessons in mathematics as part of her service to the education community.
